Concepts:Inspired by the quote “Although the full moon is cherished as a symbol of reunion in the hearts of Chinese people, somehow in Chinese mythology the moon is evocative of solitude and desolation.” from China Daily News, this charcoal drawing featuring chiaroscuro depicts figures from different Chinese ethnic minorities lead by Chang E, the Chinese moon goddess, also known as the Goddess of Wisdom Gathering.

The Chinese media constantly promotes the idea that ethnic minorities coexist harmoniously, but in reality there are huge conflicts between them. Only a section of Chang E’s iconic hairstyle is visible to show that the “wisdom” reunion is flawed with segments of newspapers aiming to advertise the stability and peacefulness between various ethnic groups.

Concepts: The underwater images can be originated form Socrates’cave theory, a metaphor on how humans know the world. The prisoners in the story have to go through three phases to see the real world-the shadows of things, the reflections on the water and the reality.

The water image is in the middle of true and false, the intermediate state of shadow and reality.

Concepts: "Take a Risk, Let go!" is a visual reminder that change and transformation can only take place once we let go of familiarity and comfort. Intentionally leaving what you know to dive into the unknown is very difficult and fear-inducing for many of us. Doing so takes courage and requires a mentality of readiness to face a state of liminality.

Self-awareness, self-love, and self-care are crucial to not only survive, but to thrive in liminal spaces. This painting portrays imagery and feelings of connecting with yourself –as well as with energy sources larger than yourself– to help get through and enjoy the journey of growth. Concepts: My practice began with a sense of alienation from the external environment. Growing up in a volatile environment, I am constantly experiencing the loop of questioning the meaning and value of personal identity. For me, the echoes generated by environmental variation can be redefined and re-created through daily photography works and use semiotics to analyze images, using rectangles as my symbolic language.

Through digital painting, disassemble and reassemble photos, paintings, installations, and site-specific projects, it shows the ideology of the current environment. I am seeking the regulation of time, ideology, and memory in which the space we are living in, which is the continuous progress of the timeline, recombining and splicing the memory fragments in the present. I try to construct the memory fragments from the planar space into the physical space.

Concepts: The series consists of three paintings, which depict a hazy and beautiful ideal of life. It contains endless mountains, puppies, and chickens in the fields. This is the Tao Yuanming-style hermitic life that the Chinese long for deep down. As a person who lives in the city in modern life, I am tired of the flamboyant life.

On the one hand, I long for a peaceful life surrounded by nature, but on the other hand, my desire often succumbs to the diversity of urban life. So I see the idyllic life as an unreal and untouchable dream.

Everyone is born as a blank sheet of paper, and our character, behavior, and thoughts are filled in little by little in our familiy, school, and even the whole social environment. People seem to have diverse or complete personalities, but we are bound and manipulated by many so-called "right" and "rules", like the clown in the piece assembled from various metal parts. We spend our lives wandering because we think about our own identity and the position we have in this world.

Concepts: On a regular summer weekday I travelled to Chengdu. The air is damp with faint aroma of rain, moss, or wet earth. As the sun dimmers, I walk past a small bar, and from its turquoise window frame the bar light pour through. I don’t quite know what gave me the sense of intimacy, is it the warm light, the people leaning close, or just the summer breeze? How do they spend this summer, and the countless yet finite summers that follows?

Beautiful young people! At a moment my soul must be so close to theirs without either of us knowing. The next second I know I am a block away. Now I know I am an ocean away. And all good moments fade to mere impressions.

Concepts: This work is a reflective set of abstract paintings consisting of subjective perceptions of racial personhood in American culture which is reminiscent of the features of different races. For each painting, they are an individual; at the same time, they are a member of the whole unit. Or perhaps each painting represents its own unique environment. The transformation of the environment makes us begin to perceive and examine ourselves as a race.

When the perspective is enlarged, we can feel the diversity, conflicts, and changes that occur in the process of integration and permeation of different ethnic identities.

Concepts:When traveling in Ho Chi Minh City, I went to a local art gallery out of admiration. I have expected that I would be lucky enough to appreciate the works I like, but what touched my heart was the picture when I inadvertently looked down from the third floor. The sun was shining through windows on the faded stairs and mottled walls, where light and shadow intertwined. The sudden sense of era interweaved with ineffable French romance.

To contrast the light and shadow, I used charcoal and captured this simple moment when I was on the journey of Vietnamese history.
